The Past does not define the future - A look forward at Planned Giving with Richard Radcliffe

Event Info
Summary:

The last five years has seen incredible changes and legacy giving is increasing globally. The profile of a typical bequest donor has changed beyond recognition both in Canada and abroad. Baby boomers are now replacing the “old fashioned” donors.

Following research with 14 universities around the world, we now understand the “older generations” and their mindset concerning financial, testamentary and estate planning. And it is fascinating to witness in focus groups. This new generation of bequest donors deserves respect and are intelligent “investment investigators” for their legacy. Come and find out the future of legacy and planned giving.

About Richard and what he does every day

Initially Richard was an in-house fundraiser for 10 years. But for the last 30 years Richard has specialized in legacies including being Executive Chairman of Smee & Ford (a company which has read every Will in the UK for over 160 years) where he started the UKs first dedicated legacy consultancy. He sold Smee & Ford 12 years ago and has since run his own consultancy.

He has met around 32,000 supporters and service users for over 500 charities (including many in Canada) to gain their perceptions of the charities they support. Richard has researched Will making, and legacy giving traditions in over 30 countries. He is currently researching the “older brain” and how it makes decisions about finances including Will making and legacy giving.

He has helped develop strategies for many of the biggest charities in the World as well as many very small ones!

Richard trains fundraisers, trustees/board members and other volunteers in “How to make the legacy ask”. He has trained about 40,000 people. He has been Chair of the International Fundraising Congress and Institute of Fundraising Convention for four years. He has researched extensively on donor happiness. In 2018 he was given, by the Institute of Fundraising, the Lifetime Contribution to Fundraising Award. His book “Why legacies are brilliant for Charities and how to get them” is selling beyond his expectations or even dreams!

P.S. You can tell how old he is by the length of his CV 
