Welcome to the Canadian Association of Gift Planners, Nova Scotia Chapter.
CAGP Nova Scotia is an organization for fundraisers, professional advisors, lawyers, and accountants- to network, share ideas, and develop knowledge of current issues in gift planning.
The Nova Scotia Chapter hosts ‘lunch and learn’ meetings the last Thursday of each month (summer months excluded) where members connect with their colleagues and learn from expert speakers. We invite anyone throughout the Maritimes with an interest in gift planning to attend these sessions. There are several advantages to membership, including a discount on the registration fee for both chapter event and those held nationally.
In 1998, the Nova Scotia Roundtable (now Chapter) held the first LEAVE A LEGACY™ program in Canada, with 98 charities in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island participating. The program, which provides information to the public about estate planning and encourages them to make a gift in their will to a charity of their choosing, continues to experience success today. To learn more about Leave a Legacy, please visit: http://www.leavealegacy.ns.ca/
If you have any questions about the Nova Scotia Chapter and upcoming events, please contact Liz Finney, Chair, Nova Scotia Chapter.
We hope you will join us.
Mentorship Program
CAGP-NS has teamed up with AFP-NS to deliver a new joint mentorship program to our members.
The Mentorship Program is designed to match a junior fundraiser, with 3 years of experience or less, with a seasoned fundraiser as a mentor for coaching in areas of the field that they would like to learn more about. This program provides junior fundraisers, and those early in their careers, valuable one-on-one coaching, as well as the chance to learn more about the pragmatic side of fundraising, complementing the more formal professional development courses available. Mentees will be given the opportunity to hone in on specific skills they wish to cultivate, while mentors will play a leading role in advancing the profession of fundraising in Nova Scotia.
We are currently looking for mentors and mentees and invite you to fill out an application here: https://community.afpglobal.org/afpns/profdev/mentorship.

Survey Results
The Chapter’s Leave a Legacy Co-Chairs arranged for a question about leaving a gift in a will to be included in a 2016 survey to Nova Scotians by Corporate Research Associates (CRA). The same question was also asked in a CRA survey in 2009. Both sets of survey results, as well as the study methodology, can be found below.
