Session descriptions:

Session 1:  Proactive Planned Giving for the Small Shop

Are you ready for a planned giving program?  Are your donors ready?  Can you effectively react to a call from a donor or lawyer? How can you cost-effectively encourage legacy gifts? Is it part of the annual giving program or major gifts?  How do you engage your Board? The answers to these questions will be different for every charitable organization and understanding the differences can be the key to success. With this information, you’ll be able to determine how to gauge your readiness and decide what level of commitment will be required for your special situation.

Also, we will discuss the case, elements and best practices of an effective planned giving program specifically for a small shop.

This introductory workshop was developed by and for fundraisers in southern Alberta and will help ensure your charity is ready to receive your donors’ most significant life-time gifts.

Session 2:  And Planned Giving Too!

You’re handling annual giving, major giving, stewardship and everything else, and now you’re being asked to handle planned giving too!  There’s nothing to fear. Planning giving is not complex.  It’s just marketing. Here’s an easy three-step program to ensure you’re efficiently balancing your time to create opportunities for your donors to make the gift of a lifetime.  Even with limited time, resources and help, you can confidently work with your volunteers and donors, and their legal advisors, to create their ultimate charitable gift.

Presented By: Neil Williams

Neil has been a development professional since 1994, earned CFRE certification in 2003, and is an experienced and innovative planned and major gifts officer. Neil is considered a leader and mentor in Calgary’s development community, having chaired the local Chapter of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners and many of its events, and was a founding member of the committee that brought CAGP’s Leave A Legacy marketing program to Southern Alberta. Neil has presented at AFP, CAGP and CASE conferences since 2007.

Neil’s passion is helping those new to planned giving cultivate the values-driven programs and broad skillset demanded by today’s ever more sophisticated donors, transforming traditional bequest-based programs by integrating cutting edge ideas, processes and programs. “There is no greater honor in life,” says Neil, “ than helping a donor express their deepest values through giving in a way that is most meaningful to them.”

Neil has managed planned giving and lead major gifts and other programs for several charitable organizations in Calgary and Kelowna.  He began offering his services as a Senior Consultant with PGgrowth Inc. in 2016.
