Presenters Andrew Torbiak and Jennifer Bisch of Tradition Law Estates and Trust will be providing a comprehensive session on donor capacity when making a gift either in lifetime or in their estate.
Presenter: Andrew Torbiak Partner, B.Comm (Hons), J.D.
Andrew is a partner with Tradition Law LLP Estates and Trusts in Winnipeg. Andrew maintains a broad practice in estates law, with emphasis on estate planning and estate administration. He also provides consultation to clients related to committeeship and attorneyship issues, as well as to estate beneficiaries.
Prior to being called to the Manitoba Bar in 2016, Andrew attended the Asper School of Business (class of 2012) and the Robson Hall Faculty of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 2015.
During his time in law school Andrew competed in multiple levels of negotiation competitions, notably finishing first in the Robson Hall Negotiation Competition in 2015, and fifth in the 2016 International Negotiation Competition held in Dublin, Ireland. Since graduating Andrew has become a sessional instructor of Legal Negotiations at Robson Hall, and coaches third-year law students at the yearly Canadian National Negotiation Competition. He enjoys engaging with law students and discussing the communication and collaboration skills necessary to become a successful negotiator.
Finally, Andrew is a proud member of Businesses and Organizations Supporting Seniors (B.O.S.S.), whose mission is to enrich the lives of seniors in the Winnipeg area.
When he’s not in the office, Andrew can be found out for a run, or enjoying the parks and patios with friends.
Presenter: Jennifer Bisch M.A., J.D.
Jennifer is an associate lawyer with Tradition Law LLP, Estates & Trusts, practicing primarily in the areas of estate planning, trusts, and estate administration. She received her call to the Manitoba Bar in 2023 and joined the firm in October of that year.
Prior to attending law school, Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Anthropology at the University of Winnipeg and a Master of Arts degree in Social Anthropology at York University. After university, Jennifer worked as a museum curator in Winnipeg, where she developed an interest in estates, planned giving, and property law, particularly related to art and heritage assets. In 2018, she returned to school and completed her Juris Doctor degree at the University of Manitoba in 2021.
While in law school, Jennifer sought extra training in her areas of interest by completing a certificate in art provenance research through the Association for Research into Crimes Against Art (ARCA) in Italy. Jennifer continues to seek educational opportunities by attending seminars offered by STEP Canada and the Estate Planning Council of Winnipeg. Jennifer looks forward to further developing her skills in estate and trust law and building a career that helps clients meet their estate planning goals.
When not at work, Jennifer enjoys playing board games with her family, knitting, cycling, listening to podcasts and reading vintage cookbooks.
