Memorial Relationship Building: Working with Next of Kin

Tabs

Event Info
Summary:

What role does stewardship play in Estate Management? Is the role of a charity to simply to review an estate's accounts and ensure proper administration - or is there more to the story? Is there a place for stewardship, donor cultivation and possibly even solicitation future gifts from friends and family in Planned Giving?

Join us for an interactive social session that will dive into this topic. Megan Doyle Ray, Manager, Legacy Giving and Memorial Programs, CHEO, will lead us off by sharing her real-life experiences managing relationships with next-of-kin, and share her thoughts on ways to steward and engage memorial donors.

Note: This is a CAGP Social Session. Megan will make a short presentation and then we will break out into discussion groups so you can share your experiences, connect with your peers and learn from each other. You will need a webcamera and audio to beable to participate.

To allow for honest dialogue and exchange of ideas, the session will now be recorded.

Free for CAGP members! $10 for non-members.

Megan Doyle Ray has spent 30 years in the charitable sector working closely with donors to champion many aspects of the community-minded work she believes in deeply. In that time, she has evolved from being a fundraising generalist working on everything from events and direct mail to an expert advisor shaping major gift and capital campaigns with the Canadian Diabetes Association and The Hospice at May Court. Today, Megan is the Manager of Legacy Giving at the CHEO Foundation; a position she has held for the last 12 years.

A focus on legacy and planned giving makes impeccable use of Megan’s proven abilities in relationship building and stewardship. She has found her calling at the CHEO Foundation and never tires of connecting with donors, listening to their stories and helping them to create their meaningful legacies that leave a lasting mark on children and families. Megan’s positive and open way of engaging with people has made the decision to give a natural and gratifying one for many. Thanks to this mutual respect, legacy giving has grown year over year into a strong and reliable source of philanthropic funding for CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and Roger Neilson House.

Megan is currently President of the Ottawa Estate Planning Council, Education Chair on the Board of CAGP Ottawa Chapter and has been actively involved for many years with the Ottawa Chapter of AFP where she chaired the Fundraising Day Committee for three years.

Megan has a BA in English Literature from McGill University, is a voracious and devoted reader, especially of historical fiction, and is always ready to hear a good story.
