The Social and Economic Impact of the Sector

Presented by Crystal Tremblay, PhD., University of Victoria

The 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals represent a revolutionary global consensus that nations have in achieving development. Civil Society plays an important role in achieving these goals. Crystal will share the findings of a recent partnership project between the Victoria Foundation and the University of Victoria, which examines the social impact and econimic activity of civil society in the CRD in the 2016 fiscal year. The results reveal the sector's vital contribution to the economic development and prosperity of the region -- with over $4 Billion in economic activity. This study is the first of it's kind that provides a comprehensive illustration of the impact of the philanthropic sector. The social impact illustrated in this study is a snapshot of the various ways charitable organizations serve the public good -- and contribute to a collective global agenda for sustainable development.
