Gift Planners and Grief: Diving Into Death & Showing Up for the Conversation

Janice L. St-Denis, CFRE, McMaster University

Leigh Naturkach, Women's College Hospital Foundation

In our line of work, as gift planners in charity, law, finance and tax the concept of death is a powerful element in legacy discussions and planning. But it’s intimidating for a lot of practitioners. Our facilitators have studied the past, present and rapidly changing future societal beliefs and (Canadian) culture of death. Come to get a better understanding of how to master your own feelings around death in end-of-life discussions as well as challenge your own fears in truly being present instead of just engaging at a ‘planning’ level. We will also explore the growing cultural phenomenon of “Death Café’s” from Europe so you can help foster a more healthy death-culture in your part of Canada.
