Topic:  Engaging Millennials

Figuring out how to attract “next gen” donors is a challenge for charities. While keen to volunteer, millennials demand more transparency and detailed information before donating to a non-profit or charity.  We will discuss how the giving patterns of younger generations differ from those of their parents and grandparents.  We will scratch the surface on how to use social media as a stewardship tool and share in some creative approaches to engaging this demographic.

Shannon Weber
As Director, Community Investments for the Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation, Shannon oversees initiatives such as Waterloo Region's Vital Signs and the Engage! KW philanthropic leadership program. In addition, her time is focused on the strategy and rollout of the Smart and Caring Grants Program.

Mike Pereira
Mike has worked with organizations of all sizes, from multinationals to start-ups, businesses to non-profits, to engage and inspire people. Most recently he served as Director, Marketing and Community Development at the Accelerator Centre.  Prior to that Mike held positions in Communications with both Manulife and Cowan Insurance Group.

Together Shannon and Mike will team up to share their thoughts and insights into our millennial population and how this group might fit into the philanthropic landscape in our community.
