During the CAGP-ACPDP™ Annual Conference Banquet on May 13th,  2010, it was with great pleasure that the CAGP-ACPDP™ Board of Directors honoured the recipients of the 2010 Friend of CAGP-ACPDP™ Award:  Janice Loomer Margolis and Susan Manwaring

Janice Loomer Margolis


Janice is the Director of Development at Ecojustice. Janice’s over twenty years in the gift planning field have included being a director of a community foundation, as well as practicing law in the areas of corporate law for charities, tax, planned charitable giving and wills and estates.

Janice is a member of CAGP-ACPDP™ Government Relations Committee, the Education Committee, the Vancouver Estate Planning Council and the Canadian Bar Association Vancouver Wills and Estates Subsection. Over the past over seventeen years as a member of CAGP, Janice has served as one of the Founding members and founding Co-Chair of the Greater Vancouver Roundtable, a Past Chair of the National Board and Chair of the Ethics and Standards portfolio, the initial faculty for the Original Comprehensive Gift Planning Course, Chair or Co-Chair for four national conferences, a past Chair of the Professional Advisors’ Committee of LEAVE A LEGACY™ British Columbia, and a Mentor through the Greater Vancouver Roundtable.

Susan graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1983 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1985. She is a Partner with the law firm Miller Thomson.

Susan advises, writes and speaks to the voluntary sector on tax and corporate governance related issues, including CAGP-ACPDP™ LEAVE A LEGACY™.

She has accepted many voluntary and professional appointments including:

- Chair, Government Relations Committee, CAGP-ACPDP™;- Executive Member and Former Chair, Canadian Bar Association, Charities and Not for Profit Section;- Executive Member and past newsletter editor, Ontario Bar Association, Charities and Not for Profit Section;- Member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the CRA Charities Directorate;- Faculty, CAGP Advanced Gift Planning Course; and- Participant in Muttart Foundation Consultations.

Somehow, she finds time to serve on Charity Boards and Advisory Committees, and is very giving of her time and expertise to others.

Susan has been recognized for many years in the Canadian Legal Expert Directory as a leading Canadian Charities/Not for Profit law practitioner.

A “Friend of ~ Ami(e) de CAGP-ACPDP™” must have:
• practiced or operated in an exemplary and ethical manner;
• exemplified vision, talent and dedication to CAGP-ACPDP™ and society;
• made a significant contribution to CAGP-ACPDP™ or to gift planning in Canada.

A call for nominations is put out each year and this year there were six nominations. A “Friend of ~ Ami(e) de CAGP-ACPDP™” is identified by a committee of the Board of Directors of CAGP-ACPDP™, approved by the Board and is recognized during the annual CAGP-ACPDP™ Conference.

The Canadian Association of Gift Planners would like to recognize Janice Loomer Margolis and Susan Manwaring for their continuing dedication to the field of planned giving and for their tireless contributions to the CAGP-ACPDP™. Thank you and congratulations!
