Canadian Association of Gift Planners

2007 Friend of CAGP-ACPDP™ Award Recipient

During the CAGP-ACPDP™ Annual Conference Banquet on April 12th 2007, it was with great pleasure that we honoured the recipient of the

2007 Friend of CAGP-ACPDP™ Award

Beryl Publicover

Beryl, a Newfoundlander by birth, has been involved in philanthropy either as a volunteer or as a professional her entire adult life. Beryl’s earliest work experience in Toronto and Halifax was in the financial services sector. Beryl’s early days as a fundraiser in Halifax involved knitting sweaters for the Grace Maternity Hospital (now the IWK-Grace Health Centre) for its Annual Christmas tea and sale. She quickly wove a new fabric of gift planning for the Salvation Army, the IWK Health Centre Foundation and now the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital Foundation. She has been an active volunteer within CAGP-ACPDP™ having served on its National Board as Membership Chair now serving on its Membership Committee. In October 2005, Beryl co-instructed the Canadian Gift Planning Course with Malcolm Burrows in Banff. She was co-chair of the last CAGP-ACPDP™ conference held in Halifax and volunteered to do it again for this year’s conference- Thank you, Beryl.

Beryl was a founding member of the
LEAVE A LEGACY™ Nova Scotia program in the fall of 1998; served as the co-chair of the Nova Scotia LEAVE A LEGACY™ Program Committee for many years and served on the executive of the Nova Scotia RoundTable. She is also an active member of the Halifax Estate Planning Council. Beryl has been a mentor to many people along the way and continues to show willingness to assist others in their professional development and understanding of gift planning.

A “Friend of ~ Ami(e) de CAGP-ACPDP™” must have:
• practiced or operated in an exemplary and ethical manner;
• exemplified vision, talent and dedication to CAGP-ACPDP™ and society;
• made a significant contribution to CAGP-ACPDP™ or to gift planning in Canada.

A call for nominations is put out each year and this year there were five nominations. A “Friend of ~ Ami(e) de CAGP-ACPDP™” is identified by a committee of the Board of Directors of CAGP-ACPDP™, approved by the Board and is recognized during the annual CAGP-ACPDP™ Conference.

The Canadian Association of Gift Planners would like to recognize Beryl Publicover for her continuing dedication to the field of planned giving and for her tireless contributions to the CAGP-ACPDP™. Thank you and congratulations!
