What is Gift Planning
Gift Planning is the donor-centered process of planning charitable gifts, whether current or future gifts, that meets philanthropic goals and balances personal, family, and tax considerations.
Who is a Gift Planner?
A Gift Planner is someone who works with donors and their professional advisors and/or their favourite charity to achieve maximum benefit for both the donor and the charity from a planned charitable gift.
Who is a Professional Advisor?
Professional Advisor best defines CAGP members who work in charitable gift planning as an advisor to a donor or a charitable organization. These members commonly work in the fields of accounting, law, insurance, financial planning, etc.
It is important to note that in some provinces, not all advisors are able to be recognized as “Professional” and thus the naming “Professional Advisor” might not be applicable to them. For instance, in some provinces the name Professional Advisor does not include Financial Planners and Life Insurance Representatives. For the purposes of CAGP Membership, when we refer to Professional Advisors, we refer to all advisors in general – regardless if they are not entitled to the designation of Professional Advisor in their province.
